Awards and Recognitions

This page provides additional information about awards and recognitions intended for Scouters who serve youth with special needs and disabilities. The BSA provides three awards.

  • Special Needs Scouting Service Award (SNSSA): any registered adult leader or Scouting professional may earn this award by completing the requirements.
  • Torch of Gold Award: each Scouting council may award one Torch of Gold Award each year to a Scouter for exceptional service to youth with special needs and disabilities.
  • Woods Services Award: one award is given nationally to a Scouter who has performed exceptional service to youth with special needs and disabilities at a local, regional, and/or national level.
